Best time to post on Reddit, by subreddit

Enter a subreddit to see when its top posts of the past year were published, broken down by day of the week and hour. Every result shows the sample size and date range, and you can switch time zones.

Updated

How it works

  1. 1Type a subreddit name, with or without r/, or paste its URL.
  2. 2We read that community's top posts of the past year and count when each one was published.
  3. 3You get a day-by-hour grid and a table of the five busiest slots, in the time zone you pick.

What you get

  • A 7 by 24 grid of when top posts were published
  • The five busiest day and hour slots, as a table
  • How many posts were counted
  • The date range those posts cover
  • UTC, your device's time zone, or a named zone

Use cases

  • Pick a posting window for a community you have not posted in yet.
  • Compare two subreddits before you decide where to share a launch.
  • Check whether a community's popular posts cluster on weekdays or weekends.
  • Pull the same counts through the API for a scheduling tool.

What this tool measures

The tool answers one narrow question: when were this community's top posts published? It reads the top posts of the past year, records the weekday and hour each one went up, and counts them.

That makes it a proxy for timing. It doesn't measure engagement by hour, and it can't tell you how a post would have done at another time. A post that reached the top at 9:00 on a Tuesday may have done well because of its topic rather than its hour.

Every result shows how many posts were counted and the dates they span, so you can judge how much weight to give the numbers.

How to read the grid

Each cell is one weekday and one hour. A darker cell means more of the counted top posts were published in that slot. Hover over a cell to see its exact count, or read the table of the five busiest slots below the grid.

  • Small counts are normal. With a sample of a few dozen posts, the busiest slot may hold only two or three of them. Treat that as a hint rather than a pattern.
  • Time zones move the grid. The default is UTC. Switch to your own zone to see the slots in your local time.
  • Look for clusters. Several neighbouring hours, or a whole weekday that stands out, tell you more than one dark cell.

Why there is no single best time

Reddit doesn't publish engagement by hour, and communities differ. A programming subreddit and a hobby subreddit have different members in different time zones. Rules matter too, since some communities only allow certain post types on certain days.

Use the grid to pick a first window and then test it. Post at two or three times that look reasonable and compare how your own posts do in that community.

Get the same data from the API

The posts behind this tool come from one request to the subreddit posts endpoint. The API returns up to 100 posts per request, which is a larger sample than the free page gets. Read the response, group createdAt by weekday and hour, and you have the same grid. To check a community's rules before you post, use the Subreddit Stats tool. To browse its feed, use Subreddit Posts.

The API call, with a recorded response

Recorded on for r/SaaS. The request returned 100 posts published between 2025-11-06 and 2026-10-28. Counted by UTC weekday and hour, the busiest slot held 5 of them (Tuesday 08:00), and the fifth held 3. That is a spread, not a single peak.

Questions

What time is Reddit most active?
The tool doesn't measure activity across all of Reddit. It counts when one community's top posts were published, so the answer applies only to the subreddit you enter.
What is the best time to post on Reddit on the weekend?
It depends on the community. The grid includes Saturday and Sunday, so you can see whether any of that subreddit's top posts went up on those days. If those rows are empty, check the sample size before you read anything into it.
How do I see the best time to post on Reddit in PST?
Pick US Pacific in the time zone menu above the grid. The slots shift to Pacific time without running the search again.
How many posts does the tool count?
The free page counts the first 10 top posts of the past year that come back and shows that number on every result. The API returns up to 100 posts per request, which gives a steadier picture.
Does posting at these times get more upvotes?
We can't say. The tool shows when popular posts were published, not whether the hour made them popular. Use the busiest slots as a starting point and test them.
Is this tool free?
Yes. Each visitor gets a limited number of free runs a day, and no signup is needed. The API has no daily cap beyond your credits and rate limit.
Is this affiliated with Reddit?
No. ChatterAPI is independent and not affiliated with Reddit, Inc. or X Corp.
