How we research Reddit
Updated November 1, 2026
Some pages on this site carry a block called "What Reddit says". This page explains how we make those blocks so you can judge them.
Which threads we use
We find threads with our own Reddit search endpoint and read them with our own thread endpoint. Both are documented: search and thread. These are the same calls you would make with an API key, so what we quote is what the API returns.
How we choose quotes
Every quote follows the same rules.
- It is the exact text of one comment, 25 words or fewer, and a substring of the comment as the API returns it.
- It names the author and the subreddit, carries the date the comment was posted, and links to the comment itself.
- We re-read the thread on the day we publish. If the comment has been deleted or removed, we drop the quote.
- It is one person's report. We never present a quote as a statistic, and we never write "most users say" based on a handful of comments.
- We never quote our own team.
How we spot sellers
Threads about tools attract the people who sell them. We leave out comments from anyone promoting a product in the same thread, and from anyone who identifies as a founder or employee of a tool being discussed. Sometimes we keep one of these comments because it states a plain fact, such as a coverage limit. When we do, it is labelled "vendor" and never counted as what Reddit thinks.
How often sets are re-read
Every block shows the date we last read it. Reddit changes and comments get edited and removed, so an old date means an old reading. We re-read sets when we update the page they sit on.
What we do not do
- We do not treat votes as truth, and we do not rank quotes by score.
- We do not build pages about individual Reddit users.
- We do not claim a tool can show text that moderators removed. Reddit hides it.
- We do not count a thread we found through a vendor's own post as independent evidence.
