Bright Data alternative
Bright Data sells social media data two ways: a Scraper API you trigger with lists of URLs or keywords, and ready-made datasets you buy in bulk. Reddit and X are two of the many networks it covers. ChatterAPI covers only Reddit and X, and it answers each request with JSON right away, over REST or a hosted MCP server.
What Bright Data is
- Bright Data's Social Media Scraper API covers Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, YouTube and more. Its Reddit scrapers find posts by subreddit URL, keyword or author. A separate scraper collects Reddit comments. source
- Its X scrapers collect posts and profiles, with fields such as post content, replies, reposts, views, biography and follower and following counts. source
- One API call can take up to 5,000 target URLs. Results come back as JSON, NDJSON or CSV, delivered by API, webhook or cloud storage. You can call it from Python and Node.js SDKs, a CLI or an MCP server. source
- The Scraper API has a free tier of 5,000 records a month with no card. After that you can pay as you go per 1,000 records, take a Scale plan that includes 384,000 records, or go Enterprise. source
- Bright Data also sells ready-made social media datasets, including Reddit posts and X posts, in JSON, CSV or Parquet. You can buy them once or on a monthly, quarterly or biannual refresh. As listed on Oct 14, 2026, pricing is up to $0.0025 per record with a $250 minimum order. source
When Bright Data is the better choice
- You need a large historical batch of Reddit or X records in one delivery, as a dataset file.
- You want data from many social networks, not only Reddit and X, from one vendor.
- You want results delivered to cloud storage or a webhook on a schedule.
- Your team buys data by the record and wants Parquet or NDJSON files for a warehouse.
When ChatterAPI fits
- You want one request to return Reddit or X JSON right away, without triggering a job and then collecting the delivery.
- You only need Reddit and X, and you want endpoints shaped for them: thread exports with comments, subreddit rules, account status, followers, tweet search.
- You want an AI agent to call Reddit and X tools through one hosted MCP server.
- You want to start small: 100 free credits on signup, then plans from $19 a month.

Moving from Bright Data's Reddit scrapers
- List the keywords, subreddit URLs and author names you send to the Reddit posts scraper.
- Replace each keyword job with a call to Reddit search and read the JSON in the response.
- Replace subreddit URL jobs with the subreddit posts endpoint, and comment jobs with the thread endpoint.
- If you relied on scheduled deliveries, call the same endpoints from your own scheduler and store the results.

Does Bright Data have a Reddit scraper?
Yes. Its Social Media Scraper API lists Reddit scrapers that find posts by subreddit URL, keyword or author, plus one for Reddit comments.
Is Bright Data free to try?
Its Scraper API page lists a free tier of 5,000 records a month with no credit card. Datasets are sold separately with a minimum order.
Does ChatterAPI sell historical Reddit or X datasets?
