How the Reddit video search works

Reddit's search mixes text posts with media and has no simple way to show only videos. This Reddit video search returns only posts that carry media. Type a keyword and set the type to video. You get a grid of results with the title, subreddit and score under each tile.

Videos don't play on this page. Each one shows a poster placeholder, and clicking the tile opens the video on Reddit. Nothing autoplays, and no video is copied or rehosted here.

The free page shows 12 tiles. Adult content is never shown on this page. Sign in to see more results, sort by new or top, and set a time window.

Set the type to image for single pictures or gallery for multi-image posts. Each result includes the direct image URLs Reddit serves, so you can also use it as a simple Reddit image viewer: scan the thumbnails and open the ones you want. A gallery result lists every image in the post, including the ones after the first.

Choose all to mix the three types in one grid. Media posts have no body text, so each result shows the title, the subreddit and the numbers.

Search media from your code

GET /v1/reddit/media/search returns the same posts with a media object holding the type and the URLs. Set kind to image, video or gallery. AI agents can call it as the reddit.search_media tool over MCP. The API reference lists every parameter.

Questions

Can I download the videos?
No. The tool finds video posts and links to them on Reddit. It does not download or rehost the files.
Why does a video show a placeholder instead of a preview?
Video tiles show a poster placeholder so that nothing autoplays or hotlinks on this page. Click the tile to watch it on Reddit.
What is the difference between image and gallery?
An image post has one picture. A gallery post has several, and the result lists every image URL in it.
Does it show NSFW media?
Never on this page. Signed-in accounts that confirm they are 18 or older can include adult media through the API.
Is this tool free?
Yes. Each visitor gets 10 free runs a day, and each run shows the first rows of the result. With a free account you see the full page, and the API has no daily cap beyond your credits and rate limit.
Is this affiliated with Reddit?
No. ChatterAPI is independent and not affiliated with Reddit, Inc. or X Corp.
