How it works
- 1Type a Reddit username, with or without the u/ prefix.
- 2We ask Reddit how it answers for that account when you are logged out.
- 3You get one verdict: visible, suspended, not shown, or unclear.
What you get
- Username
- State: active, suspended, not shown, or unknown
- Whether the account exists publicly
Use cases
- Check your own account when your posts and comments get no replies at all.
- Vet a seller or a new collaborator before you trust a profile.
- Confirm that an account you manage for a client still shows up publicly.
- Audit a list of accounts before you reach out to them.
How the Reddit shadowban checker decides
Reddit does not publish a list of shadowbanned accounts, and it does not tell the owner. It does change how a profile looks to people who are logged out. A normal account loads with its karma and history. A suspended account shows a suspension notice. A shadowbanned, deleted or banned account usually returns nothing, as if the username were free.
This tool requests the profile the way a logged-out visitor would and reads Reddit's answer. It reports one of four states:
- Active: Reddit shows the account to everyone.
- Suspended: Reddit shows a suspension notice.
- Not shown: Reddit returns nothing for the name. If you can still log in, the account is likely shadowbanned.
- Unknown: Reddit did not give a clear answer. Try again later.
Only Reddit knows for sure whether an account is shadowbanned, so no outside tool can be certain. The verdict reflects what Reddit shows the public right now.
What to do if Reddit does not show your account
First, log out or open a private window and visit your own profile. If it doesn't load there, the check agrees. Reddit's help center has an appeal form for account actions. While you wait, avoid posting the same link in many communities, since that commonly triggers spam filters.
If the account is active but a post is missing, a subreddit's filters may have removed the post itself. That would be a moderator action rather than a shadowban.
Check accounts from your code
The same check runs through the API at /docs/tools/reddit-user-status, so you can test a list of accounts on a schedule. For accounts that do not exist, each call returns a state rather than an error.
