Reddit search and history

You can search Reddit three ways in 2026, and each one reaches different data. Live search (reddit.com, or an API such as ChatterAPI) covers what is on Reddit right now, going back as far as Reddit's own search does. Archives such as Arctic Shift and the Pushshift dumps hold older posts and comments, some of which were later deleted. Once an author deletes a comment or a moderator removes it, nothing can show it to you unless an archive saved it first.

Live search

Use live search for current posts, comments, users and subreddits. ChatterAPI's free tools run these searches in your browser with no signup, and the same calls work from code or an AI agent.

Archives

Use an archive when you need history that Reddit's own search no longer returns. Every archive has gaps and access changes often, so check an archive's status before you rely on it. Our alternatives pages list what each archive covered on the date we checked it.

Deleted and removed content

Since about September 2025, Reddit lets moderators hide removed comments from the author's public profile as well as from the thread. That change broke the tools that used to show removed comments from live Reddit. A deleted or removed comment can now only exist in an archive.
