Best Reddit scrapers and scraping APIs in 2026

The best Reddit scraper depends on the job. We checked open-source tools, Apify actors, Bright Data, ScrapeCreators, Data365 and ChatterAPI on Oct 14, 2026.

The best Reddit scraper depends on the job. Use PRAW if you already hold Reddit API credentials and write Python. Use an Apify actor or Bright Data for scheduled batch pulls without code. Use a hosted Reddit scraping API like ScrapeCreators, Data365 or ChatterAPI when an app or AI agent needs data on demand. We checked every tool below on its own page or repo on October 14, 2026, and every price carries that date.

A lot of Reddit scrapers stopped working in 2026. In May, Reddit shut down unauthenticated .json endpoints, and it has limited Old Reddit to logged-in mods and recent users. So for every tool, the first questions are whether it still works and how it gets the data. How to scrape Reddit without getting blocked explains why the old routes fail.

Outscraper also lists a Reddit scraper. We left it out of the table because its page threw a bot check on every load we tried. More on that below.

How we checked

For each tool we opened its own pricing page, product page or GitHub repo on October 14, 2026 and recorded only what the page said. GitHub numbers are stars and the date of the last commit on the default branch, pulled from the GitHub API that day. If a page loaded its prices through JavaScript we couldn't read, or blocked us, we say that instead of guessing. We didn't benchmark speed or completeness, so this list makes no claims about either.

Open-source Reddit scrapers

Open-source tools cost nothing to run, and you can read exactly what they do. In 2026 the problem is access. Most of them either wrap Reddit's API, which now needs approval, or read Reddit's web endpoints, which Reddit has been closing.

PRAW, the Python Reddit API Wrapper, is what most Python tools build on. Version 8.0.3 went up on PyPI on August 12, 2026. You need a client id, a client secret and a user agent (quick start). Since November 2025, new credentials need Reddit's approval, and Reddit stops accepting new requests on October 31, 2026. If you already have keys, use PRAW. Our PRAW comparison and Reddit API in Python guide go deeper.

URS (Universal Reddit Scraper) is a command-line tool for scraping subreddits, users and comment threads. Its README says it scrapes "via PRAW," so it has the same credential problem.

reddit-universal-scraper offers "two collection modes: free browser-page capture, or approved OAuth API access," according to its README. In browser mode, a Chrome extension saves posts and comments from pages you load while signed in and exports them as JSON or CSV. The README is direct about the limits: "A proxy does not grant API approval."

Reddrix is a new async Python scraper that was posted to r/webscraping on October 11, 2026. Its README says it needs no API key and offers browser impersonation and rotating proxies "in anticipation of future aggressive anti-scraping measures." Reddit's User Agreement prohibits that kind of access without written consent, so use it for research and keep it out of production.

Bulk Downloader for Reddit is popular for saving media, but its default branch hasn't had a commit since January 2023.

Agent-Reach also comes up a lot among people building agents. It's a toolkit with 97,176 stars that connects AI agents to many platforms. Its README says Reddit has no zero-setup path because anonymous access is blocked, so it reads Reddit through your browser's logged-in session. That's fine for personal research, but your own account is the one at risk.

Apify Reddit actors

Apify is a scraping platform where independent authors publish "actors," and its store has several Reddit actors. You set the input in a form or through the Apify API, run the actor once or on a schedule, and download the dataset.

Two of the most used, as listed on Oct 14, 2026:

  • Reddit Scraper Lite by trudax pulls posts, comments, communities, users and search results without a Reddit login, starting at $3.40 per 1,000 results stored. Its page shows 47,737 total users and a 4.57 out of 5 rating, and it recommends residential proxies for Reddit.
  • Reddit Scraper by trudax gets the same data starting at $0.10 per 1,000 results plus platform usage. It has 14,709 total users and a 2.64 rating.

Apify's Free plan includes $5 of monthly usage, and paid plans start at $19 a month, as listed on Oct 14, 2026. People use it for no-code jobs. In r/n8n, u/traderjames7 said "Apify is way cheaper" than PhantomBuster, and added that "trudax has good Reddit ones." Our pages on the Apify Reddit scraper and Apify in general compare it with an API approach.

Bright Data

Bright Data's Social Media Scraper API includes Reddit scrapers that find posts by subreddit URL, keyword or author, plus a separate Reddit comments scraper. Its old Reddit-specific URL now redirects to that page. As listed on Oct 14, 2026, the free tier gives you 5,000 records a month with no card. After that you pay as you go per 1,000 records, or move to a Scale plan that includes 384,000 records. The per-record dollar figures are loaded by script and didn't render for us, so check the page for current rates.

Bright Data also sells pre-collected social media datasets, Reddit posts and Reddit comments among them. On Oct 14, 2026 they were listed at up to $0.0025 per record with a $250 minimum. The product is built for volume across many sites. See our Bright Data comparison.

Outscraper

Outscraper has a page at outscraper.com/reddit-scraper/. Every time we loaded it on October 14, 2026, it showed a "Verifying that you are not a robot" check, and a web search turned up no first-party details. We couldn't verify its features or price, so we won't describe them. If it's on your shortlist, check the page yourself.

ScrapeCreators

ScrapeCreators is a REST API that covers many social platforms. Its Reddit API page lists 8 Reddit endpoints: search, subreddit posts and details, subreddit search, post comments and the Reddit ad library, among others. As listed on Oct 14, 2026, it runs on prepaid credits. You get 100 free credits with no card, then pay $47 for 25,000 credits or $497 for 500,000. Most endpoints charge one credit per request, and credits don't expire. It fits teams that want Reddit next to TikTok, Instagram and other platforms under one key.

Data365

Data365 sells a social media data API that includes Reddit. Its Reddit page describes a three-step flow for fetching a post: request an update, check its status, then collect the result. As listed on Oct 14, 2026, plans start at €300 a month for one social network and 500,000 credits, and €850 buys three networks. The free trial lasts 14 days and starts "after a short call." That suits a company buying a data contract better than a developer who wants to test something tonight.

ChatterAPI

ChatterAPI is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. It's a single REST API and hosted MCP server for Reddit and X data, built for developers and AI agents. It is independent and not affiliated with Reddit. For Reddit it covers keyword search across posts, comments and media, full threads with comments, subreddit posts, rules and moderators, users and their history, account status, and leads. Reddit access is read-only.

Here is a keyword search through GET /v1/reddit/search:

curl "https://api.chatterapi.com/v1/reddit/search?q=best+crm+for+small+business&time=year" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $CHATTERAPI_KEY"

The response below is trimmed to one post. It's a recorded sample from a test key, which returns one real response per endpoint for free:

{
  "data": [
    {
      "id": "1wdihhj",
      "fullname": "t3_1wdihhj",
      "title": "What CRM should a small business use?",
      "author": "NotedWhisky",
      "subreddit": "CRM",
      "score": 51,
      "numComments": 186,
      "createdAt": "2026-09-11T14:52:16.000Z",
      "url": "https://www.reddit.com/r/CRM/comments/1wdihhj/what_crm_should_a_small_business_use/"
    }
  ],
  "page": { "nextCursor": "AX-vad045wfn…", "hasMore": true },
  "credits": { "charged": 0, "remaining": 719 }
}

On a live key, search costs 2 credits per page of up to 25 posts, and a thread with comments costs 3. The same tools work in Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients at https://api.chatterapi.com/mcp. ChatterAPI searches live Reddit and reaches back as far as Reddit's own search does. It is not a historical archive. To try it without a key, use the free Reddit post search and comment exporter tools.

How to choose a Reddit scraping API

Four questions narrow the list fast.

  1. Do you already have Reddit API credentials? If yes, PRAW is free and well maintained. Register the app with Reddit before January 12, 2027 to avoid disruption (r/modnews).
  2. Do you need batch pulls or on-demand answers? Scheduled bulk pulls fit Apify actors and Bright Data, which return datasets. An app or an agent answering a user's question needs a synchronous REST call that returns data in one request.
  3. How many platforms do you need? For Reddit plus TikTok and Instagram, use ScrapeCreators or Bright Data. For Reddit plus X, use ChatterAPI.
  4. What does your terms review say? Every tool here touches Reddit content. Reddit's Data API Terms and User Agreement apply to what you do with it, whichever tool collects it.

Plenty of developers think paying for any of this is unnecessary. In r/webscraping, u/tendie_bot argued that for a small monthly job "you wont even come close to triggering reddit WAF." That held for some setups in May. Since then Reddit has closed .json and Old Reddit, RSS is next, and the scripts relying on them broke without warning. A free tool is fine for a one-off. For anything that has to run next month, budget for maintenance, either your own or someone else's.

FAQ

What is the best Reddit scraper?
It depends on the job. If you're writing a Python script and already have Reddit API credentials, PRAW is the standard. For no-code batch runs, use an Apify actor or Bright Data's Reddit scrapers. If your app or AI agent needs a REST API it can call on demand, use a hosted Reddit scraping API such as ScrapeCreators, Data365 or ChatterAPI. Check each tool's current pricing page before you commit.
Is there a free Reddit scraper?
Open-source scrapers such as PRAW, URS and Reddrix cost nothing to run. PRAW and URS need Reddit API credentials, though, and Reddit stopped issuing those self-service in November 2025. Most hosted tools include a free allowance. As listed on Oct 14, 2026, Bright Data gives 5,000 records a month, ScrapeCreators 100 credits, Apify $5 of monthly usage and ChatterAPI 100 credits.
What is a Reddit scraping API?
A Reddit scraping API is a hosted service that collects Reddit posts, comments, subreddits or users and returns them as JSON from a normal REST call. You authenticate with the provider's key instead of Reddit's, and the provider keeps collection working when Reddit changes something.
Do Reddit scrapers still work after the API changes?
Many don't. In May 2026 Reddit shut down unauthenticated .json endpoints and limited old.reddit.com to logged-in users, which broke scrapers built on those routes. Tools that use approved OAuth credentials, a logged-in browser or a hosted collection layer still work, and each of those comes with its own trade-offs.
