Free Twitter follow checker

Enter two X handles and this Twitter follow checker tells you in one run whether the first account follows the second, whether the second follows back, and whether the two are mutuals.

Updated

How it works

  1. 1Enter the account that might follow in the first box and the account it might follow in the second. Handles with or without the @ work, and so do profile URLs.
  2. 2We ask X for the follow relationship between the two accounts, in both directions.
  3. 3You get a yes or no for each direction, a mutual badge when both follow each other, and whether X lets the first account send the second a DM.

What you get

  • First account follows second: yes or no
  • Second account follows first: yes or no
  • Mutual: both accounts follow each other
  • Can DM: whether X lets the first account message the second

Use cases

  • Check that someone followed back before you reply to them or count them in a giveaway.
  • Check whether X allows a DM from one account to another before you write the message.
  • Confirm that a partner, an influencer or a competitor follows your brand account.
  • Audit follow-backs for a few accounts without scrolling through a following list.

How the Twitter follow checker works

This Twitter follow checker answers one question about two X accounts: does either follow the other? Type the first handle, type the second, and run it. You don't need to log in, and neither account is told that you checked. People often search for this as doesfollow, "does follow" or "check if someone follows you on twitter". It is the same check.

The answer comes from X's public follow data. A result can be up to an hour old, so a follow made a minute ago may not show yet.

What each answer means

  • First follows second: the account in the first box follows the account in the second.
  • Second follows first: the reverse direction. Checking both at once saves you running the tool twice with the boxes swapped.
  • Mutual: both directions are yes.
  • Can DM: X's own answer on whether the first account can send the second a direct message. It can be yes even when the second account doesn't accept DMs from strangers.

What it cannot see

Blocks and mutes are private to the account that set them, so this tool does not show them. A no in either direction only means the follow does not exist right now. It doesn't say whether the person unfollowed, never followed or was blocked.

To see everyone who follows an account, export the list with the X Follower Exporter. To see who an account follows, use the X Following Exporter. To look at one profile first, open the X User Lookup.

Check follows from code

The free page checks one pair per run. The same call is available through the API at /docs/x/v1/x/users/:source/follows/:target, so a script or an AI agent can check a list of pairs, for example every account that replied to a launch tweet against your brand account. It returns the same four fields as JSON.

Questions

Does the other person know I checked?
No. The check reads public follow data and does not log in as you or as them.
Why does it say no when I know they follow?
Results can be cached for up to an hour, and a very recent follow may not have reached X's public data yet. Check the spelling of both handles and run it again later.
Can it tell me who unfollowed me?
No. It shows the current state of one pair, not a history. To track changes, export a follower list at two different times and compare the two.
Can I see if someone blocked or muted me?
No. X keeps blocks and mutes private to the account that set them, and a public check cannot read them.
Is this tool free?
Yes. Each visitor gets 10 free runs a day, and each run shows the first rows of the result. With a free account you see the full page, and the API has no daily cap beyond your credits and rate limit.
Is this affiliated with X?
No. ChatterAPI is independent and not affiliated with Reddit, Inc. or X Corp.
