Brand monitoring on Reddit and X

One call to the brand mentions endpoint searches Reddit posts, Reddit comments and X for your name and its other spellings, drops anything containing words that rule a mention out, and returns one list. Run it on a schedule and you have a mention monitor.

The job

People talk about products on Reddit and X long before they file a ticket or leave a review: a complaint in a subreddit, a question about pricing, a comparison with a competitor. Brand monitoring means finding those mentions while they are still fresh enough to answer.

The hard parts are coverage and noise. Reddit comments matter as much as posts, a brand has several spellings, and a common word catches thousands of unrelated results. The mentions endpoint takes aliases, exclude words and your own accounts to skip, so the list you get back is about you.

How it works

  1. List the names

Your brand, product names and common misspellings go in q and aliases. Words that signal a different meaning go in exclude.

  2. Skip your own accounts

Add your team's Reddit usernames and X handles to excludeAuthors so your own posts don't show up.

  3. Run it on a schedule

Call it daily with time=day or weekly with time=week, and store each item's id so you only alert on new ones.

  4. Send it somewhere

Post new mentions to Slack, a sheet or a CRM from your own code, or through n8n or Zapier.

What it won't do

  • ChatterAPI reads live Reddit and X. It does not return posts or comments that were deleted or removed.
  • There are no webhooks or streams yet. To watch for new items, call the endpoint on a schedule and keep the newest id you have seen.
  • It finds mentions that contain your terms but does not score sentiment. You can run that on the text yourself.

Questions

How much does a mentions check cost?
Up to 7 credits per call: 2 for Reddit posts, 2 for Reddit comments and 3 for X, charged only for the sources it calls.
Can it alert me when a new mention appears?
Not by itself yet. Run the call on a schedule and send new items to Slack or email from your workflow.
Does it cover private subreddits or protected accounts?
No. It reads public content only.
